This heartbreaking photo of a dog waiting by his owner’s empty hospital bed went viral on social media after the man died. The good news: Moose, a three-year-old lab mix, has a new home!
The sad photo was uploaded to Facebook by NorthStar Pet Rescue in Boonton, N.J., the nonprofit organization working with Eleventh Hour Rescue in Randolph, N.J, to find Moose a new home. The photo has been shared thousands of times.
Moose's backstory: In August 2017, Moose was found tied to a railroad sign in front of an animal shelter in rural Georgia. When he waited several months for an adopter but didn’t find a home, a volunteer at the shelter contacted one of the Eleventh Hour Rescue's partners in Georgia and Moose was moved to the New Jersey animal rescue, where he was adopted into a loving home. But the man who adopted Moose died about a year later and Moose was brought back to the Eleventh Hour Rescue.
Soon after posting the photo and the info about Moose's return, the rescue received several adoption applications and a new family came to adopt him!
"Moose has been adopted by a wonderful family who will care for and love him for the rest of his life," the rescue wrote. "Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts! We wish all our dogs had the same chance at finding a home."
We love happy endings!
