Shelter-building event in Johnson County

Join the Johnson County Humane Society, Indy Neighborhood Cats and Pet Pals TV Kitty Correspondent KJ for a shelter-building event Sept. 28!

Shelterpalooza will be held from 10am until about 2pm at the Humane Society of Johnson County, 3927 N. Graham Road, Franklin, Indiana 46131.

For 9 years, we have gotten together as a group of organizations from all over Central Indiana to build warm winter shelters that organizations can take with them to distribute in their areas. It helps save thousands of lives over the cold winter months.

If you have not been before, some things to be prepared for:

Wear Gloves: even gardening gloves to protect your hands. Straw can scrape and damage hands.

Wear long socks and jeans: It may be a warm day but we will be in an out of a barn. The ground is uneven and making sure you are covered is important.

You may want to wear a mask. Straw and Styrofoam shards can cause the air to get a bit thick. A mask will help keep your lungs clean and healthy!

Older kids and teenagers are welcomed with their parents or legal guardians. Make sure they come ready with the above and they can help stuff shelters!

Lunch, drinks and snacks will be provided. Please let Dawn Benefiel know if you are attending! Send to dawn@indyneighborhoodcats.org Shelterpalooza in the subject line.

You can take shelters with you. Visit https://www.hsjc.org/
